Tree-mendous Fun in the Mountains

Zipline1

Zip Lining through the picturesque mountains and rivers of the area is an exhilarating experience. Whether you are in the south, north or in the middle of the Pocono Mountains, there’s a zip line nearby.

The big daddy is Camelback (CBK) Mountain Adventures in Tannersville, PA off of I80. CBK is the home of a monster 4,000 foot zip line! Just to give you an idea of how big of a ride that it — a mile is 5,280 feet.  But that’s not all they offer. CBK also boasts a five course Challenge Course. You’re harnessed in as you maneuver your way through floating logs, boards, slides, tunnels and more. It is a fairly intense core workout. But you also need to use your brain to strategize your way through the challenges. Guides monitor and assist from the ground.

Camelback is also home to the only PA Mountain Coaster. You control your speed in your go-cart type car that seats one or two as you fly over the rails. A climbing wall, Segway’s, Free-Fall stunt airbag, Euro-bungee adds to the adrenaline junkie appetite. They offer a triple package rate of $60 that includes the full Challenge Course, one Mountain Coaster ride and a 1,000 foot zip line (the 4,000 ft zip line is separate).  Which is a great deal considering the Challenge Course alone is $50?  The Mountain Coaster is $10 (either per person or per ride) the summit to base 4,000 ft zip line is $35. Cost to zip the long line and the full Challenge Course is $80.  www.cbkmountainadventures.com | 570-629-1663×3

The Skytop Adventure Center in Canadensis, PA offers three Challenge Courses. Much like the courses at CBK but at Skytop the guides are up in the trees alongside you. Safety is of the upmost concern for all the adventure programs, but I like the up close and personal method of the Skytop staff. The location is a little off the beaten path so chances are the course will not be as crowded. They also offer a climbing wall, paintball, archery tag and off-road UTVs. Zip lines are included in the challenge course. They have several smaller runs and a long 1,000ft run. You have the option to just zip the long line. Cost for the full challenge course is $40 weekday / $45 weekend. Paintball is $60 that includes coveralls and facemask. The paintball location is an old western town Main Street making for some very fun and exciting game play. www.skytop.com/the-adventure-center | 570-595-7401

On the NY side of the Delaware River between Lackawaxen and Shohola is the Kittitany Outdoor Adventure and home to the dual racing zipline. This 3,000ft run has your dropping 36 stories from the top of the mountain as you zip through and above the treetops, 150 feet in the air while taking in the magnificent bird’s eye view of the Delaware River. Kittitany also offers paintball as well as river rafting and kayaking. Cost for the zipline is $37 weekdays and $39 weekends.  www.kittatinny.com |800-356-2852
