FARMS
Although the number of farms have decreased over the years throughout the Pocono Mountains, we are still fortunate to boast a number of quality offerings. Due to COVID, I suggest reaching out to your farm or restaurant of choice beforehand for hours of operation.
There are several farms that offer the ideal wedding or event setting. Fox Hill Farm, New Leaf Farm, Anthill Farm Agroforestry, Longacre Farm, Hardler Farms, Paupack Blueberry Farm and more. But few offer on-site camping to accommodate up to 200 guests like Wallenpaupack Creek Farm, a rustic wedding venue located in South Sterling, Pennsylvania.
The Sylvania Tree Farm in Lackawaxen is a private, 1,200-acre estate located on the scenic Upper Delaware River, Sylvania Tree Farm features five cottages and homes with completely modern, fully-equipped kitchens, fireplaces and hot tubs – emphasizing privacy, luxury and service in a rustic and secluded setting.
The Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm where History comes alive as period-dressed “family” members share their daily routine of chores and crafts on a 19th century Pennsylvania German farmstead. Located in Stroudsburg, Quiet Valley is open to the general public for tours from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day plus extra spring and fall Saturdays.
Looking for a combined farm and food encounter? Old School Farm in Bethany is a unique, fun-filled eating experience. Guests will kick back and enjoy while the staff at Old School Farm provide a full course meal that includes the Farm’s now famous, wood fired artisan farm pizza, farm salad and dessert along with music, campfire and comradery. The farm is also a great venue for a wedding or special event.
Another great farm eating experience is the Farm to Barn Dinner with The Healing Herd at the Blissful Existence Healing Acres in East Stroudsburg. There is just something about eating in a barn surrounded by community and The Healing Herd; feeling love and peace with a full, happy belly. The multi-course dinner is offered monthly using organic, local, fresh farm ingredients and changes each month with attention to detail. You can come individually, as a couple, or a group.
Farm to Table dining is abundant in our area. NEPA boasts a number of truly exceptional eateries. Some favorites include The Delmonico Room at Hotel Fauchere, The Settlers Inn, Glass at The Ledges Hotel, Tree at The Lodge at Woodloch, as well as Here and Now, Native and Dyberry Forks in Honesdale. The Laundry and The Heron in Narrowsburg, NY also need to be included on the list. I recommend stopping by Narrowsburg Proper on Main Street, a provider of a number of quality local products.
Farm fresh – whether through a Farmer’s Market, CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), direct or local shops are tastier and healthier than processed foods. We are fortunate to have an abundance of options. So, whenever possible, buy local. Support our local farmers, friends and neighbors. And, give yourself and your family the gift of wholesome, organic food – good for the body, good for the soul.
